What is a Chiropractic adjustment?
A Chiropractic adjustment is the use of a specific directed force to help normalize spinal function.

It’s possible that 1 or more of the 24 movable bones that protect the spinal cord move from their normal positioning (misalign). If this occurs, the nerve located in the area of irritation can become inflamed, producing pain, swelling, numbing, burning, etc. If an examination shows an imbalance in the spine, a chiropractic adjustment is recommended to help correct the condition.

Does a Chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Having a Chiropractic adjustment is not normally painful. Every Chiropractic adjustment is tailored to the patient. There are many ways to adjust the spine, and Dr. Marconi will select from a variety of methods to deliver a chiropractic adjustment tailored to the patient’s age, size, and unique spinal problem. Patient feedback is an important part of the process, and you should discuss your specific needs, concerns, and comfort levels with your Chiropractor.

Are Chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes, Chiropractic care offers a safe, cost effective, non-invasive method for treating and correcting spinal imbalances.

Doctors of Chiropractic Medicine undergo extensive schooling, and subsequently must pass rigorous state and national board tests. When you are selecting a Chiropractor, inquire about their education and certifications, and ask them about their approach to care to ensure you are comfortable with their methods.

Why should my children be adjusted?
During your child’s first year, the spine is undergoing the most dramatic growth spurt of its entire life span: growing from 24 cm (9.5 ins) at birth to 36 cm (14.25 ins) at the age of 12 months—a 50% growth rate! The spine will never again achieve such a rapid rate of growth. (This growth is similar to an adult growing from 6 ft to 9 ft in one year.) A child’s activity and development level is so high that minor misalignments in the spinal column at a young age may be the precursor to a life of spinal problems manifesting as headaches, neck pain, and eventually spinal joint degeneration.

Children who are adjusted are documented to suffer fewer ear infections, have decreased allergy sensitivities, and an overall increased immune system. (Ref: Chiropractic Care for the Pediatric Patient; Peter N. Fysh, DC, FICCPch.12, pages 149-151.)

Why do I need to visit a Chiropractor when I do not have “pain?”
The reason it is important to see your Chiropractor even if you aren’t experiencing pain is that often the body is so powerful it is able to sustain us without sending alarms signals that something is wrong. For example, numerous medical journals document that frequently the first symptom of a heart attack is a heart attack itself! Prevention is the best way to prevent discovering a problem when it has become a crisis.

Preventive health care means adding healthy habits into your lifestyle to achieve optimum function of the body—physical, mental, and emotional. This includes a healthy diet, exercise regime, and healthcare.

Chiropractors are experts of the Nervous System; hence regular Chiropractic care is one element that will aid in a healthy lifestyle. The Nervous System controls and coordinates every functional aspect of your body. Regularly scheduled Chiropractic checkups are important to make sure your Nervous System is operating properly.
